A Portrait of Maggie’s

These artworks were produced in 2016 during a 6 month residency at the Maggie’s Centre in West London – an urban retreat for those affected by cancer. Following months of photographing and speaking to Maggie’s staff and centre users, these are the works that emerged. They are all collages of drawings, photography and text, using layers of acetate, tracing paper and watercolour paper in double-sided frames.

As a collection, they form a portrait of how people interact with the celebrated architecture and planting of the centre. The delicacy and transparency apparent in all the pieces is a reflection of the emotional and physical fragility of cancer sufferers, but also the levity and care that Maggie’s brings to their lives.

This series was exhibited at the Maggie’s Centre in September 2016 and in the ‘Corporeal’ solo exhibition at The Anglesea Arms in London, July-September 2017.
